Manuel Akanji says Manchester City remain motivated to win all the trophies despite the treble triumph last season.

Pep Guardiola’s side have started the season in fine for, winning seven of their first nine Premier League games and sitting top of their Champions League group.

Much has been made about the Blues’ motivation coming into the new season after completing the treble last season, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League for the first time in club history.

However, City defender Manuel Akanji was quick to remind everybody that his side will do everything in their power to avoid a treble hangover.

“We want to win everything possible,” Akanji said.

“We’re out of the Carabao Cup but we want to fight for everything else and hopefully more trophies at the end of the year.

“[We have] started really well. Didn’t win the Community Shield but after that had a long winning streak. Then three losses obviously not good for us but we showed a reaction and won the game at the weekend.”

Injuries have hamstrung Manchester City so far this season, despite the fast start. The Premier League champions have been without John Stones, Jack Grealish, and Mateo Kovacic for large stretches of the first three months.

To make matters worse, City will be without Kevin De Bruyne until 2024 after the Belgian required surgery for a torn hamstring.

But the Blues’ solid start did not appear to take a hit as a result of the fitness issues, thanks in large part to an uptick in performances from players like Julian Alvarez and summer signing Jeremy Doku.

City will square off with BSC Young Boys on Wednesday evening as they aim to make it three wins from three to kick off their campaign in Champions League Group G.
