Ederson issues cryptic eight-word message after suffering season-ending facial injury
Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has published a cryptic message on social media after suffering a season-ending injury.
The 30-year-old goalkeeper will miss Manchester City’s final two matches of the 2023/24 campaign against West Ham United and Manchester United, after suffering a small fracture to his eye socket during Tuesday’s win over Tottenham Hotspur in north London.
Ederson will be unable to compete in the Blues’ defining Premier League finale at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday or the Emirates FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 25th May as a result of the injury, with Pep Guardiola’s side bidding to win both the Premier League and FA Cup this month.
The Sky Blues require a win over West Ham this weekend to secure a record-breaking fourth consecutive Premier League title, and can also retain their FA Cup crown with a win over local rivals Manchester United.
The Brazilian goalkeeper was forced off during the second-half of Tuesday’s 0-2 win over Spurs, being replaced by Stefan Ortega just minutes after undergoing treatment following a nasty collision Cristian Romero.
Ederson, who was replaced for the fourth time this season due to injury in midweek, is hoping to become a six-time Premier League winner this weekend, having moved to the Etihad Stadium in 2017.
The 30-year-old has started 43 matches for Manchester City this season, but has missed key games against the likes of Arsenal and Real Madrid due to injury problems.
Following confirmation from Manchester City that the goalkeeper would miss the remainder of the season due to a facial fracture, Ederson took to social media to issue a cryptic eight-word message.
“No one understands, but me. see you soon,” read the caption on the Brazilian’s Instagram post.
German shot-stopper Ortega, who made a number of crucial saves at Tottenham to deny both Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski, is now set to start the Blues’ upcoming two matches.
The showdown fixtures against West Ham and Manchester United could be Ortega’s final games with Manchester City, amid continued exit talk as a result of stalling contract extension negotiations.
