Manchester City undergo scouting mission on Juventus midfielder
Manchester City have been scouting rising Juventus midfielder, Nicolò Rovella according to reports from Italy this week.
The Premier League champions will be well on their way in regards to their transfer market shortlisting process ahead of the new calendar year.
It is widely understood that officials within the Etihad Stadium are interested in signing a new full-back next year, and are open to either a new face at right-back or left-back.
However, perhaps a more pressing issue is the situation in central midfield.
Despite Pep Guardiola having a wealth of talent in the position this season, and a number of academy talents showing promise, the summer market of 2023 could bring plenty of change.
Club captain Ilkay Gundogan is out of contract at the end of the ongoing season, and is yet to make a decision on his future beyond that point.
Despite Manchester City showing some signs of wanting to negotiate with Gundogan and his representatives, there is a feeling that the player is in no rush to make a decision – at least not until after the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Elsewhere, Bernardo Silva’s long-term future also remains uncertain, with La Liga’s FC Barcelona retaining a strong interest that has been ongoing for a number of seasons.
This week, a new name has emerged on to the scene of potential Manchester City transfer targets, via a report from Italy.
According to the information of Italian newspaper Tuttosport, as translated and relayed by Football Italia, Manchester City have scouted Juventus’ on-loan midfield talent, Nicolò Rovella.
Currently on-loan at Serie A outfit Monza, it is suggested that City officials monitored the performance of the 20 year-old in one of the club’s recent Italian top-flight matches.
However, unfortunately for the Premier League champions and any hopes of recruiting the player in the near future, Juventus are described as being ‘unwilling’ to sell their rising prospect.
Instead, the plan for the Bianconeri – according to the report – is to bring Rovella back to Juventus at the end of the ongoing season and perhaps involve him more heavily in their first-team set-up next campaign.
The rise of the young midfielder across the Italian top-flight will be enough to understand precisely why Manchester City are intrigued by the abilities of the player.
Since first breaking onto the scene at Genoa, Nicolo Rovella has racked up an impressive 56 appearance in Serie A at just 20 years-old.
Juventus signed the midfielder back in January of 2021, before keeping him on loan at Genoa for the second-half of the 2021/22 campaign.
Perhaps most notably, Nicolo Rovella’s contract with Juventus does not expire until June, 2026.
