Manchester City are negotiating with West Ham over a deal for Lucas Paqueta but are yet to submit an official offer for the midfielder, City Xtra understand.

The Premier League champions have been credited with an interest in the 25-year-old Brazilian, who impressed with his performances during the back end of the Hammers’ Europa Conference League winning campaign last term.

Manchester City, who begin their Premier League campaign with a trip to Burnley on Friday night, have already signed Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea for a deal worth £30 million after Ilkay Gundogan’s free transfer to Barcelona earlier in the summer.

Pep Guardiola also saw Riyad Mahrez join Saudi-Arabian club Ah-Ahli in July and has indicated that Manchester City are eyeing further reinforcements to kick on from their treble-winning season before the transfer window shuts on September 1.

The City boss refused to discuss his club’s pursuit of Lucas Paqueta in his pre-Burnley press conference on Thursday.

However, West Ham boss David Moyes confirmed on Friday that the London club have received an offer from the European champions for Lucas Paqueta ahead of his side’s Premier League opener against Bournemouth, insisting that the proposal fell well short of his club’s valuation.

Moyes said: “We’ve had an offer from Manchester City, but at the moment it’s not anywhere near meeting our valuation.”

Sources have told City Xtra that Manchester City are yet to submit an official bid for Lucas Paqueta – and remain in talks with West Ham for the midfielder, who has drawn interest from the Etihad Stadium.

After securing the arrival of Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig for £78 million, Manchester City also remain in the market for a replacement for Riyad Mahrez, with Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise also believed to be admired.

Manchester City will continue negotiations with West Ham, who also received interest from Etihad Stadium officials in their now-former captain Declan Rice, who joined Arsenal in a staggering £105 million deal in July.
