Leicester City have signed young Manchester City centre-back Callum Doyle on a season-long loan.

The 19 year-old, who was part of a Coventry City side that reached the Championship play-off final last season, returns to the EFL for the 2023/24 campaign to join Leicester City.

The Foxes are managed by former Manchester City assistant coach Enzo Maresca, with the Italian replacing Brendan Rogers at the King Power Stadium last month, following the Sky Blues’ historic treble.

Doyle has enjoyed two previous successful loan spells at both Sunderland and Coventry City, making 46 appearances last season.

The 19 year-old has been with Manchester City since 2014, and joins Leicester City on a season-long loan, as the Midlands club seek to return to the top-flight after relegation in May.

Doyle, who has won both the U18 Premier League and Premier League 2 with the Sky Blues, signed a new contract until 2027 with Manchester City in January.

What are the terms of the Callum Doyle to Leicester City deal?

The teenager has signed on a season-long loan for the 2023/24 campaign, subject to league approval. Leicester are understood to have paid Manchester City a loan fee of £500,000 for Callum Doyle, and there is an understanding that he will feature regularly.

What clauses have Manchester City included in the deal with Leicester City?

The deal does not include an option for Leicester City to make the move permanent following the completion of the loan.

What has Callum Doyle said upon leaving City and joining Leicester City?

Doyle: “It’s great to come to work in a place like this. I’ve worked with Enzo before and won the Under-23s Premier League title with him. He improved me a lot so it’s good to work with him again.

“What’s on everyone’s mind right now is obviously to get the Club back where it belongs. This season, with the squad that we have, I think we’ll do really well.”

How have Leicester reacted to their new signing?

“Leicester City Football Club can today confirm the signing of highly-rated defender Callum Doyle on loan from Manchester City, subject to league approval.

“The 19-year-old makes the move to Leicestershire having also spent last season on loan in the Championship with Coventry City. The youngster impressed across 46 appearances for the Midlands side as they reached the 2022/23 Championship Play-Off Final in May.”

Who else was interested in Callum Doyle?

It was initially reported that Leicester City were interested in signing Callum Doyle on a permanent deal this summer, with a transfer fee of between £7 million and £10 million quoted.

Earlier in the summer, Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt were claimed to have been monitoring the progress of the defender.
