Manchester City assistant coach Enzo Maresca is set to become the new manager at Leicester City after an “outstanding” interview.

The 43 year-old, who boasts an impressive playing and coaching record, recently helped Pep Guardiola and Manchester City achieve the treble, as the Sky Blues claimed the Premier League, FA Cup and most recently, the UEFA Champions League.

Maresca played for Juventus, Sevilla, Fiorentina and Olympiacos during an illustrious playing career and as well as working under Guardiola’s coaching staff at the Etihad Stadium, the Italian worked with former Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini, during the Chilean’s time at West Ham United.

Leicester were unable to avoid relegation from the Premier League on the final day of the season and after appointing Dean Smith on an interim basis, the Foxes are searching for a permanent replacement for Brendan Rodgers.

A managerial shortlist at the King Power included Dean Smith and Scott Parker, however Leicester are now closing in on the appointment of Maresca from Manchester City as their new head coach.

The 43 year-old has been linked with both the Southampton and the vacant Celtic job, but now looks set to become the Leicester manager, tasked with bringing the Foxes back to the top-flight.

The Telegraph report that Leicester are set to name the Manchester City assistant coach as their new manager after “impressing” during talks and delivering an “outstanding” interview.

Maresca outlined his philosophy and vision for the future of Leicester, as the Midland’s club prepare for a series of major departures.

James Maddison and Harvey Barnes are expected to be sold while several first-team players have been released as free agents.

Maresca returned to Manchester City after being sacked after 14 matches at Parma, though has previously managed the City Elite Development Squad to the Premier League 2 title.
