Manchester City embark on the next phase of their Champions League adventure on Tuesday night, with a quarter-final first-leg tie against Bayern Munich on the agenda.

Pep Guardiola’s players are in a fantastic run of form at the moment, closing the gap to Premier League title challengers Arsenal at the weekend to just six points – meaning their destiny is now firmly in their own hands this season.

City cruised to a 1-4 victory on the south coast over Southampton on Saturday evening, with a brace from the ever-sensational Erling Haaland accompanied by another Jack Grealish goal, and a cooly-executed penalty from Julian Alvarez.

Manchester City will be hoping to carry over that confidence and fine form into their Champions League pursuit over the next two weeks, as Bayern Munich stand between themselves and a semi-final showdown with either Real Madrid or Chelsea.

Tuesday night’s first-leg encounter at the Etihad Stadium will also mark the return of Joao Cancelo and Leroy Sane to Manchester City, following their respective departures to Bavaria in recent seasons.

Ahead of what is surely set to be a fine clash in Europe’s premier club competition, here are all the notable statistics and potential landmarks to take note of!

Manchester City

  • Manchester City have won their last 10 home games against German sides in the UEFA Champions League by an aggregate score of 39-10, including all four games in this run during the knock-out stages.
  • Pep Guardiola has won 54% of his games in the knock-out stages of the UEFA Champions League (39/72).
  • Among managers with 30+ games in the UEFA Champions League knock-out stages (including finals), Pep Guardiola has the best win percentage (54%) of any manager and is the only one to have won more than half of his games.

Bayern Munich

  • Since losing four consecutive away games against English sides in the UEFA Champions League between 2005 and 2011, Bayern Munich have only lost on two of their 10 such trips since (W6, D2), and won three of the last four (D1).

Previous Meetings

  • This will be the seventh meeting between Manchester City and Bayern Munich in European competition, with each side alternating victories across the previous six (three each) – all in the UEFA Champions League.
  • Manchester City have won two of the previous occassions when hosting Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League (L1), with their one defeat coming against Pep Guardiola’s Bayern in October 2013 (1-3).
