Season-ending injury to Manchester City star described as ‘a mess’ by dressing room insiders
Figures within Manchester City’s dressing room at Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night have described Ederson’s horror eye injury as ‘a mess’, according to a new report.
The Brazilian goalkeeper is confirmed to be ruled out for the remainder of the Premier League champions’ season following his injury sustained in midweek, with Manchester City facing a high-profile double of matches across the next two weekends.
Pep Guardiola and his players have the opportunity to win a record-breaking fourth successive Premier League title on Sunday afternoon through a win over West Ham, whilst Arsenal will be hoping for a favour from David Moyes’ side alongside a win of their own against Everton.
The following weekend will then see Manchester City take on their bitter city rivals Manchester United in a repeat of last season’s FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium, in what will be the final domestic fixture for both clubs.
However, with Ederson now being unable to play a part in either contest on medical grounds, Stefan Ortega will come in for the Brazilian, as fresh details surrounding his problem sustained in North London also emerge from dressing room insiders.
According to the information of Jack Gaughan, reporting in the latest edition of MailSport’s Man City Notebook, Ederson’s eye was described by those in the dressing room as ‘a mess’ following his clash with Cristain Romero against Tottenham on Tuesday night.
While Ederson was visibly unhappy with the decision to substitute him moments after being given the all-clear to remain on the pitch, the report states that the 30-year-old understood the call from Manchester City staff later on.
Manchester City players and fans alike are unlikely to have any concerns over the club’s back-up goalkeeper coming in for Ederson for the final two matches of the season, especially considering his performance during the second-half of the 0-2 win over Tottenham.
Ortega was integral to Pep Guardiola’s players retaining their advantage in the fixture, denying Tottenham on three separate occassions in golden opportunities for the hosts, and most notably Heung-min Son in a one-vs-one chance for the South Korean forward.
Erling Haaland scored twice for Manchester City on Tuesday night to move his club to within one win of another Premier League crown, including a strike from the penalty spot to send the travelling support into delirium.
