Manchester City take on Arsenal in the Premier League for the first time this season, as the two sides go head-to-head at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.

City travel to North London knowing that three points would take them to the top of the Premier League table, albeit with Mikel Arteta’s side holding a game in hand on their challengers for the top-flight crown.

Manchester City bounced back from defeat at Tottenham Hotspur with a dominant 3-1 win over Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon, while Arsenal continued somewhat of a blip in their impressive season at the weekend.

The Gunners fell to a 1-0 defeat to Everton on the same weekend as City’s defeat against Spurs, but followed up that result with a 1-1 draw at home to Brentford in a game marred by VAR-induced controversy.

Both sides will be keen to lay down a serious marker in the Premier League title race tonight, and ahead of kick-off and the release of official team news, here is the very latest from both camps on their respective injury and fitness situations.

Arsenal

Mikel Arteta will certainly be without two members of his first-team squad on Wednesday night, with former Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus and Mohamed Elneny set to miss out due to respective injury problems.

However, the Arsenal boss has confirmed that a late decision is set to be made on Emile Smith Rowe and Reiss Nelson, with the two players coming towards the end of their recoveries from injury problems.

In a late concern for players and supporters alike, information from reputable team news source ‘Leaked Lineups’ on Instagram has stated that sources have disclosed that Thomas Partey did not arrive with the Arsenal squad at their team hotel.

That information was then followed up by information from David Ornstein of the Athletic, who reported that the midfielder is expected to miss the match with a muscular injury.

Manchester City

John Stones is expected to be Manchester City’s only major absentee from their matchday squad tonight, with the England international defender continuing his recovery from a muscular problem sustained during the FA Cup meeting between these two sides last month.

Erling Haaland has survived a late scare after being replaced at half-time against Aston Villa following a blow to his thigh, with the Norwegian part of the travelling Manchester City squad that made the rail journey to London on Wednesday morning.

Phil Foden has returned from illness that kept him out of the trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium two weeks ago, while Ruben Dias is firmly back in the squad, after being kept safe from suspension against Aston Villa following a first-half yellow card.
