Girona – owned by the parent company behind Manchester City – have possibly secured the bargain of the January transfer window through the signing of Viktor Tsyhankov.

The 25 year-old winger makes the switch to La Liga from Ukrainian side Dinamo Kyiv, joining Girona for the remainder of the ongoing season as well as at least four more campaigns, with his new deal running until 2027.

Tsyhankov’s record for the Kyiv-based club have gone largely under the radar, making his €5 million switch to City Football Group’s Girona one of the finest pieces of business you will likely see all window.

At the age of just 17, the Ukraine international signed for Dynamo Kyiv, quickly becoming a regular fixture in the first team’s plans, such was his evident natural ability from early.

In the seasons that followed, Viktor Tsyhankov scored a staggering 94 goals and registered 64 assists across all competitions, winning him six individual awards in Ukrainian football – including the ‘Golden Talent of Ukraine’ prize on three separate occasions.

Girona currently sit in 11th place in the La Liga table this season, and just one point from entering the top-half of the league, while their officials will be hoping that the signing of the bright Ukrainian international will drive them on to greater things in the months that remain.

Given the incredibly close ties between Girona and Manchester City, one can expect the performances of Viktor Tsyhankov to be closely monitored by those in charge of first-team recruitment at the Etihad Stadium.

Fans of the current Premier League champions have long been calling out for club officials to look into the possibility of signing a new exciting winger, and the aforementioned 25 year-old may fit the required profile, should he continue his fine form for the Catalan club.
