Manchester City are reportedly preparing to offer Julian Alvarez a new contract, despite the forward making his debut for the club less than six months ago.

Alvarez, who agreed a £14 million move from River Plate in January 2022, made his Manchester City debut in July, scoring in the FA Community Shield defeat to Liverpool at the King Power Stadium.

The 22 year-old scored twice on his full Premier League debut against Nottingham Forest, and has netted on a further six occasions for the Premier League champions.

Alvarez also helped Argentina to FIFA World Cup glory, scoring four goals in seven matches in Qatar.

The World Cup winner is now reportedly set to be rewarded for his impressive performances for both club and country, with Manchester City preparing to offer the striker a new deal.

The Argentinian forward penned a five-and-a-half contract last year, but is now set to be in talks regarding improved terms.

Veronica Brunati reports that talks will take place in the coming weeks, with City having planned and discussed a new deal prior to the World Cup as a result of his start to life at the Etihad Stadium.

In further specific details regarding such talks, Jack Gaughan states that discussions over the intention to secure an improved deal will take place at the end of the ongoing season – presumably to retain focus on the task at hand this campaign.

In November, manager Pep Guardiola penned a new contract until 2025, with the Catalan’s previous deal having been set to expire at the end of the current campaign.

Alvarez is the Blues’ joint-third top goalscorer, with only Erling Haaland and Phil Foden having scored more goals for the club so far this season.

On Monday, West Ham manager David Moyes revealed that he had personally turned down the opportunity to sign Alvarez last year, with clubs from across the Premier League and Europe having been interested in the 22 year-old previously.
