“An incredible footballer” – Tottenham summer transfer target reveals Manchester City idol
Shakhtar Donetsk and Ukrainian star Georgiy Sudakov has revealed that he idolises Manchester City forward Phil Foden.
The 21-year-old has been linked with a potential move to the Premier League this summer, with Tottenham and Chelsea both widely claimed to be interested in signing the attacking midfielder from Shakhtar Donetsk.
Sudakov, who has scored in both the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League this season, could stake a claim for a major move to the English top-flight next month, when the player is set to represent Ukraine at the European Championships in Germany.
The midfielder is expected to be at the tournament alongside his ‘idol’ Phil Foden, with the Manchester City star expected to be part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad in June.
Foden was recently awarded the prestigious FWA Men’s Footballer of the Year award, with the 23-year-old having registered 36 direct goal involvements across all competitions so far this season.
The Englishman is set to feature at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday night, as Manchester City bid to continue their pursuit of a record-breaking fourth successive Premier League title with a win over Spurs.
Sudakov could come up against Foden in the Premier League next season, with the Ukrainian having revealed to outlet CaughtOffside that he idolises the boyhood Blue.
“Now [my idol] is Phil Foden. I really like the way he plays. He is an incredible footballer. I also like Luka Modric very much, and I can highlight a third player, Andres Iniesta.”
The 21-year-old has made 34 appearances for Shakhtar Donetsk during the current campaign, registering 16 direct goal involvements across four competitions.
