Manchester City ‘expect’ Kevin De Bruyne to be available for their upcoming Premier League clash against Tottenham this week, according to a new update on the situation.

The Belgian midfielder was reported to be absent from Pep Guardiola’s first-team training session on Tuesday morning, as the Premier League champions put together preparations for their upcoming top-flight match.

De Bruyne played an integral role in Manchester City’s goal against Manchester United on Saturday afternoon, providing the assist for Jack Grealish’s opener in a clash that would ultimately end in a defeat for him and his teammates.

Concern over whether the 31 year-old would be available for City’s opportunity to bounce back from consecutive defeats emerged on Tuesday afternoon, following his absence from preparations at the City Football Academy.

However, such worries amongst fans can be largely dropped following an update on the situation, and specifically the reveal of the mood within Manchester City.

According to Jack Gaughan of the Mail, Manchester City are expecting Kevin De Bruyne to prove his fitness for Thursday night’s Premier League clash against Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad Stadium.

It is further revealed that City manager Pep Guardiola himself is confident that Kevin De Bruyne will be ready to play a part in a game that is nothing short of a must-win for the Sky Blues, as they trail Arsenal by eight points at the top of the Premier League table.

While the absence of De Bruyne was undoubtedly a concern, the return of two central defensive mainstays to first-team training on Tuesday morning was a hugely welcome boost to all involved.

Ruben Dias featured in first-team action for the first time since returning to the club following the FIFA World Cup, with the Portugal international recovering from a muscular injury aggravated during the quarter-final defeat to Morocco.

John Stones also made a return to training, with the England international impressing all those associated with the football club in recent weeks, after being ruled out of the Carabao Cup and Premier League defeats to Southampton and Manchester United respectively.
