Fans of Manchester City may have to wait a little longer to see incoming Argentine midfielder Máximo Perrone donning the Sky Blue shirt for their first-team.

As first reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, City will sign the Argentinian talent after a verbal agreement was reached between all parties, with the Premier League champions sanctioning a deal at $8 million plus taxes.

It is also understood that City boss Pep Guardiola contacted Argentine midfield legend Javier Mascherano to discuss the incoming midfielder, with the former FC Barcelona man providing the ‘best impressions’, detailing the youngster’s ‘good passing, aerial play and ball control’.

While the talents of Perrone are not to be disputed, his place in the immediate Manchester City first-team set-up has been debated, and a new report has claimed that the player is being viewed more longer-term by those at the club.

According to information provided by Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, Manchester City are now close to completing the signing of Vélez Sarsfield and Argentina under-20 international Máximo Perrone.

However, while it has been suggested that Perrone could come straight into Pep Guardiola’s first-team from next month, the line from Sky Sports suggests otherwise.

It is stated that the 20 year-old midfielder is not expected to challenge for the first-team at the Etihad Stadium straight away, but is more deemed as ‘one for the future’.

Manchester City are expected to be in the market for a new central midfielder during the upcoming summer transfer window, as the futures of Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva continue to cause concerns within the City Football Academy.

City’s club captain, Gundogan is into the final few months of his current contract, and is expected to weigh up his options before entering any talks over a new deal – with personal life believed to be one of the central factors behind any decision.

As for Bernardo Silva, the Portugal international is still understood to be keen on life away from the Etihad Stadium, but realises the importance of staying focussed on the task at hand, as well as City securing the right value for him from any interested party.
