Manchester City set to sell striker this summer with eight-figure transfer fee named
Premier League champions Manchester City will look to sell highly-rated striker talent Liam Delap during the upcoming summer transfer window, it has been reported.
Delap has spent the 2023/24 season on loan with Championship side Hull City, contributing to large portions of their push for a promotion play-off place in England’s second tier, but falling short by a matter of points.
Registering 32 appearances across all competitions for Liam Rosenior’s side, Liam Delap managed to score eight goals and provide two assists, while a knee injury led to the England youth international missing a large part of the business end of the campaign.
With Manchester City having Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez at the disposal of Pep Guardiola for the long-term future, Delap is highly unlikely to break into the club’s first-team squad, and as such a decision will be made over his future this summer.
According to the information of journalist Alan Nixon, Manchester City will sell striker Liam Delap to the ‘highest bidder’ in the upcoming summer transfer window, with the Premier League club wanting around £10 million in any deal.
It is further detailed that any such agreement with City may have a ‘buy back’ clause included, but it is ‘clearly unlikely’ that the 21-year-old will feature in Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad at the Etihad Stadium in the near future.
It remains to be seen whether Liam Rosenior would be open to bringing Delap back into his Hull City squad for the forthcoming 2024/25 season, or whether the Tigers could finance a deal at the aforementioned valuation.
Since graduating from Manchester City’s esteemed youth academy in 2020, Liam Delap – the son of Stoke City icon Rory – has completed three loan deals including his most recent spell in East Yorkshire.
The Winchester-born striker’s first moves into senior club football found him at Stoke City, before moving on to Preston North End, and then onto Hull City for the ongoing season.
