Manchester City are set to face fierce competition to sign one of their top transfer targets this summer.

Pep Guardiola’s side are currently focussed on their treble defence, with Manchester City bidding to win a fourth successive Premier League title and having recently reached the next stages of the UEFA Champions League and Emirates FA Cup.

City travel to Newcastle United on Saturday evening, looking to move to within two points of the top of the table, meanwhile they also face FC Copenhagen and Tottenham Hotspur in the remaining cup competitions.

The treble-winners aren’t expected to undertake any significant transfer business during the January transfer window, although River Plate’s teenage sensation Claudio Echeverri is expected to sign for Manchester City.

Guardiola can be expected to further bolster his squad next summer, with Manchester City set to be in the market for a new midfielder, after missing out on signing Lucas Paqueta last summer.

Both Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes moved to the Etihad Stadium, and the Blues could reportedly look to sign another experienced central midfielder this summer, with continued interest in Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich.

HITC Football report that the German international is one of Manchester City’s ‘top summer transfer targets’ for the 2024 transfer window, after the 28-year-old fell out of favour with Thomas Tuchel at the Allianz Arena.

Kimmich has made just 11 Bundesliga appearances this season and is ready to ‘explore his options’ ahead of entering the final 12-months of his current Bayern Munich contract.

The midfielder had been linked with reuniting with Guardiola last summer, as Manchester City looked to replace Ilkay Gundogan, who moved to Barcelona on a free transfer.

Kimmich is reportedly seen as an ‘ideal’ player to ‘bolster’ Manchester City’s midfield, with the Sky Blues already assessing their options for the summer.

Any transfer bid from the Premier League champions could be rivalled by Paris Saint-Germain however, with HITC claiming that the French heavyweights currently lead the race to sign Kimmich, and are even looking at a January swoop for the 28-year-old.
