Hopes of increased first-team game-time at Serie A giants Juventus in the second-half of the ongoing season for Kalvin Phillips have struck a significant problem this week.

As the 2024 European Championships involving Gareth Southgate’s England side moves ever closer, negotiations concerning Kalvin Phillips and a move away from the Etihad Stadium continue to intensify this month.

Possible options for the player have certainly not been short, with serious talk over a potential loan move with a view towards improved opportunities on the pitch first beginning prior to the 2023 summer transfer window.

Phillips ultimately opted to remain under the wing of Pep Guardiola, however with no progress on opportunities at the Etihad Stadium this season, a temporary or permanent agreement seems extremely likely this month.

With that being said however, problems have began to emerge for the player and a potential move towards one of Europe’s premier club sides, with a deal potentially completely off the table as of last weekend.

According to the information of transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Juventus now have ‘no intention’ of proceeding on a deal for Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips at the ‘current conditions’.

The fresh development comes after talks between the Turin club and Manchester City on the loan fee for Phillips, as well as salary coverage during the England international’s potential time at the Italian club.

While Juventus may now have exited the race for the former Leeds United man, Fabrizio Romano goes on to state that Newcastle United ‘remain interested’ in the player, with the ‘race open to more clubs’ this transfer window.

Kalvin Phillips is currently sidelined for Manchester City due to illness, with a sickness bug currently impacting Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad.

Whilst Matheus Nunes and Scott Carson may have returned to availability for Manchester City on Sunday afternoon for the Emirates FA Cup tie against Huddersfield Town, Bernardo Silva stayed away from first-team duties as he continues his recovery.
