Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have now discovered their fate in the Emirates FA Cup third round, following the draw which took place on Sunday afternoon.

The current FA Cup holders will begin their defence of the famous trophy in January, having lifted the trophy back in June as part of an historic treble, as Manchester City also won the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.

Former Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan scored twice against Manchester United at Wembley Stadium, with the German midfielder’s brace helping the Sky Blues to a landmark 2-1 victory over their local rivals.

Manchester City’s victory in the competition last season was their first triumph since the 2018/19 edition of the tournament, after a series of recent previous disappointments for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Riyad Mahrez, who also left the club in the summer, scored a hat-trick against Sheffield United in the semi-finals last season, with Manchester City also beating Chelsea and Arsenal en route to the trophy.

Manchester City will begin their FA Cup defence against Huddersfield Town at the Etihad Stadium, with third round ties scheduled to be played across the weekend of Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th January 2024.
