Manchester City have now seen Rodri pick up a one-game Premier League suspension following an accumulation of yellow cards in the English top-flight this season.

The Spanish international has already seen himself pick up a suspension earlier on in the ongoing campaign, having been banned for three successive matches for a red card against Nottingham Forest for violent conduct.

Manchester City went on to lose all three of the matches that they were forced to play without their defensive midfield mainstay, including a Carabao Cup third round exit at the hands of Newcastle United.

Their run of defeats also saw them fall to a 2-1 loss against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux, as well as a narrow 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium with Mikel Arteta’s side currently leading the way in the Premier League.

Now Rodri will miss another game for Manchester City having picked up a yellow card during the clash with Tottenham on Sunday afternoon, taking his total for cautions this season to five.

The foul and subsequent yellow card from the former Atletico Madrid man means he will not be eligible for Manchester City when they travel to Villa Park on Wednesday night to face Unai Emery’s impressive Aston Villa side.

The suspension taken on by Rodri will leave Pep Guardiola with plenty of room for thought ahead of the trip to Birmingham in midweek, as the Catalan coach mulls over his options on who will fill in for the Spaniard.

There remains a very slim possibility that Kalvin Phillips could assume the position, however the England international is out of favour under Guardiola, and there is much more of a chance of Rico Lewis or John Stones taking on responsibilities.
