Manchester City are set to complete their third signing of the summer, but will Jeremy Doku be able to feature in Sunday’s Premier League match against Sheffield United?

The 21-year-old is expected to move to the Etihad Stadium for £55 million, after Manchester City and Stade Rennais agreed a deal for the Belgian forward to move to the treble-winners.

Amid advanced negotiations, Doku missed Rennes’ 1-1 draw against Lens in Ligue 1 on Sunday, with the winger’s final game for the French club having been a 5-1 win over Mainz on the opening weekend of the season.

The Belgium international scored seven goals and registered seven assists in 35 appearances for Rennes last season, as Manchester City look to have landed their replacement for the departed Riyad Mahrez.

The Blues are looking to sign two new players before the close of the summer of transfer window, after the exits of both Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan, and the devastating injury blow to Kevin De Bruyne.

Mahrez left Manchester City for Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, moving to the Middle Eastern club for £30 million.

Doku will be Manchester City’s third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Croatian pair Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol.

The 21-year-old is reported to have chosen the number 11 shirt at the Etihad Stadium and is expected to undergo his medical later this week.

Manchester City travel to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United in the Premier League on Sunday, looking to extend their winning start to the season to three successive games.

The Sky Blues have registered back-to-back wins against Burnley and Newcastle United, and Jack Gaughan reports that Manchester City are ‘likely’ to have Doku available for this weekend’s trip to newly-promoted Sheffield United.

Manchester City will need to register the forward with the Premier League prior to midday on Friday afternoon for the 21-year-old to be available to feature on Sunday.

Should Doku make his debut against Sheffield United or Fulham then it will be handed to him by Juanma Lillo, who is taking temporary charge of Manchester City while Pep Guardiola recovers from a back operation.

Guardiola is expected back in the dugout after the September international break having undergone surgery in Barcelona.
