Manchester City and Argentina international midfielder Maximo Perrone is at the centre of transfer interest from La Liga, according to new reports.

The 20-year-old highly-rated South American midfielder joined the Premier League champions earlier this year, in an £8 million transfer from Velez Sarsfield and signing a five-and-a-half year deal at Manchester City.

With the necessary consistent game time largely hard to come by in City’s star-studded midfield over the past few months, it is widely believed that the next best step for Perrone is to continue his development in Europe but away from the Etihad Stadium.

While a number of fellow City Football Groups have been mooted as possible destinations for the Argentine during the forthcoming season, including the likes of Girona and ESTAC Troyes, a new report has detailed interest from elsewhere in La Liga.

That is according to the information of La Provincia, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, who report that Maximo Perrone is now the wish’ of UD Las Palmas manager García Pimienta to bolster his midfield this summer.

Following a shared past at FC Barcelona, the report highlights that Pimienta has a ‘relationship’ with those in charge at the Etihad Stadium and he and his club are now holding ‘open’ dialogue about a possible move.

The interest from Las Palmas is claimed to have already been ‘transferred to Txiki Begiristain’ – Manchester City’s sporting director – with the La Liga manager offering the Maximo Perrone the necessary game time to continue his development over in Spain.

Maximo Perrone has registered just two senior first-team appearances for Manchester City since joining the club in January; once in the Premier League, and another in the Emirates FA Cup – both en route to claiming the trophies.

Perrone’s Premier League debut came in a dominant 1-4 away victory against Bournemouth, as he featured during the closing stages of the contest in an 18-minute cameo appearance that impressed many onlookers.

The FA Cup outing was a more reserved showing, as Maximo Perrone featured from the substitutes bench once again but this time only for the final two minutes of a 0-3 win against Bristol City in the fifth round of the competition.
