Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has made Premier League history this weekend by making it a clean sweep in the division’s end-of-season awards.

Saturday morning got off to a flyer for the Norwegian sensation, as he was crowned Premier League Player of the Season – becoming the fourth Manchester City player in a row to take home the award.

The 22 year-old follows on from Kevin De Bruyne – who won the prize in both 2019/20 and 2021/22 – as well as Ruben Dias, who took home the accolade in his debut season back in 2020/21.

The Manchester City striker beat competition from his fellow teammate De Bruyne for this year’s prize, whilst also receiving more votes than Tottenham’s Harry Kane, Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka, Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, and Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier.

Erling Haaland has also become the first player in Premier League history to win the division’s Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season awards in the same campaign.

The Norway international’s haul of 36 goals in 35 appearances, complimented by a further eight assists, means he has also beaten away competition from Sven Botman, Moises Caicedo, Alexander Isak, Alexis Mac Allister, Gabriel Martinelli, Martin Odegaard, and Bukayo Saka.

Haaland’s achievement also means that the award for the Premier League’s Young Player of the Season remains at Manchester City for the third successive campaign, following Phil Foden’s prize in 2020/21 and 2021/22.

Reacting to his sensational achievements in the Premier League, Erling Haaland said, “I am honoured to have become the first player to win both awards in the same season – thank you to everyone who voted for me.

“It has been an incredible first season in the Premier League and lifting the trophy last weekend in front of our fans at the Etihad was a very special moment for me.

“These awards would not have been possible without my amazing team-mates, the manager and all of the staff at the club who help me perform on the pitch. Now we have two more finals to go and we want to finish the season strong.”
