Manchester City booked their place at Wembley for the semi-final of the Emirates FA Cup with a superb 6-0 victory against Championship runaway leaders Burnley on Saturday.

After a tough first 30 minutes, where Vincent Kompany’s Burnley side showed an excellent account of themselves, City eventually broke the deadlock. Latching onto an inch-perfect through-ball from Julian Alvarez, Erling Haaland poked the ball past Bailey Peacock-Farrell for his 40th goal of the season – it’s March.

Just moments later, Haaland grabbed his second when he slotted a cross-goal ball, from Phil Foden, into the bottom-left corner.

After the break, the Norwegian scored his third for his second hat-trick in five days when he was once again right on the mark when Foden’s effort hit the post.

City’s fourth then came through Argentine superstar, Julian Alvarez, who placed the ball into an empty net after Kevin De Bruyne rather unselfishly cut the ball across the face of goal.

Cole Palmer scored the fifth as the academy graduate found himself unmarked in the Burnley penalty area and struck a re-bounded effort into the back of the net.

To cap off a wonderful evening for the Blues, Alvarez bagged a much-earned second when he latched onto the end of a glorious De Bruyne pass and shrugged off a Burnley defender before smashing the ball beyond Peacock-Farrell.

Here’s how we rated City’s players from their 6-0 demolition of Burnley:

Stefan Ortega Moreno6

With limited saves to make, Oretga did keep a clean-sheet but was slow with the ball at his feet.

Kyle Walker – 6.5

Now 32, Walker still somehow doesn’t look like he’s lost even a yard of pace. The Englishman wasn’t at the peak of his powers tonight but didn’t need to be and could consider himself unlucky not to have an assist when Riyad Mahrez failed to convert his excellent volleyed cross.

Ruben Dias – 7

Solid performance once again from Dias, who looks to be getting back into form as of late. He was subbed in for Manuel Akanji in the second half.

Aymeric Laporte – 6.5

Similar to Walker, Laporte wasn’t anything special this evening but didn’t need to be and it’s just great to see him back in the City team.

Rico Lewis – 6

A rather quiet game for Lewis, the youngster didn’t look as impressive as he previously has but still put in a decent shift.

Rodri – 6

With not much of a defensive job to do, Rodri didn’t need to be up to godly standards. The Spaniard was swapped for Kalvin Phillips in the second half.

Kevin De Bruyne – 8

After a great performance against RB Leipzig in midweek, De Bruyne was spectacular and again rewarded with two assists. His mesmerizing ball for Alvarez’s second goal was a particular highlight.

Phil Foden – 8

After a tough period following the World Cup, Foden is definitely back to his usual, flowing best. Just the one assist this evening, City’s number 47 was still great all game and deserves his rating.

Riyad Mahrez – 6.5

Arguably City’s most quiet player going forward, it was rather surprising Mahrez didn’t pop up with either a goal or assist. Still, the Algerian did his job in helping the Blues to advance to the semi-finals.

Erling Haaland – 9.5 (MOTM)

With even more goals to add to his collection, now 42 for the season, Haaland was typically brilliant, again. I’m simply running out of words for this man, just a machine – yet another hat trick.

Julian Alvarez – 9

Contributing two goals and an assist, Alvarez was great once again this evening. What a week it’s been for La Arana – with his new 2028 contract too.

Substitutes:

Cole Palmer – 7.5

Manuel Akanji – 6.5

Sergio Gomez 6.5

Kalvin Phillips – 6.5

Jack Grealish – N/A
