Cole Palmer will remain with Manchester City for the remainder of the season after the Premier League champions turned down an approach from Scottish giants Rangers.

The 20 year-old has made 17 appearances for Manchester City this season and was handed starts in recent domestic cup matches against Chelsea and Southampton.

Palmer scored three goals in 11 showings for City last season, and was memorably handed his Premier League debut against Everton in November 2021.

Despite having limited opportunities for first-team football so far this year, the Englishman will remain at the Etihad Stadium following approaches from Rangers, Brighton and Southampton regarding a possible loan move.

Scottish giants Rangers are the latest club to have approached City regarding the 20 year-old, promising the winger first-team football.

Michael Beale’s side are currently nine points behind league leaders and rivals Celtic and have also been linked with fellow City youngster James Trafford.

City have rejected the opportunity for Palmer to spend the remainder of the campaign at Ibrox, with The Sun reporting that Guardiola has blocked a possible move after insisting that the 20 year-old has a role to play at the Etihad Stadium.

In the summer, Manchester City sanctioned a loan move for midfielder James McAtee, who moved to Sheffield United in search of first-team opportunities.

Palmer is contracted at the Etihad Stadium until 2026 and has made 30 appearances under Pep Guardiola since 2020.

City have already approved one first-team loan move this month, allowing Joao Cancelo to sign for Bayern Munich after becoming ‘disruptive’ to the squad.
