Manchester City travel to Elland Road on Wednesday night as they take on Leeds United in their first Premier League match since the break for the FIFA World Cup.

Pep Guardiola’s side will be looking to build on their first competitive match since the Qatar tournament, as they defeated Liverpool 3-2 in the Carabao Cup last week to book a place in the quarter-finals of the competition.

City will be especially eager to win again, as their last outing in the Premier League came in their final match before the World Cup, when they fell to a shock 1-2 defeat against Brentford at the Etihad Stadium.

Leeds United will be hoping to continue their run of fine goalscoring form, but turn goals into wins and move further away from the relegation zone as part of their two games in hand on the teams around them.

In the build-up to kick-off at Elland Road, here is the very latest team news and fitness updates from both camps!

Leeds United team news

Tyler Adams is suspended for Wednesday night’s game, and alongside Luis Sinisterra and Stuart Dallas – both of whom remain on the injury list – will make up a trio of players unavailable for Jesse Marsch.

Marsch however, is confident that Leeds’ other players who have struggled with knocks or illness in recent days will be available for selection.

Manchester City team news

Kalvin Phillips remains a doubt for Manchester City on his first opportunity to perform in front of his former club, after Pep Guardiola revealed the England international had returned to the club from his post-World Cup break “overweight”.

Ruben Dias continues to be sidelined following his muscular injury sustained at the FIFA World Cup with Portugal, and is expected to be out for at least another three weeks.

Erling Haaland is recovering positively from a foot injury sustained at Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League, as Pep Guardiola said during a recent press conference, “I think he will be ready (for Leeds).”

“Day by day he’s getting better. As much, he can train, he will get his condition. The injury is completely different to last season. It was a knock in his feet in Dortmund when we played Champions League.”

Guardiola continued, “The doctor says his damage his ligament in his feet is so painful, it’s not easy to recover. That’s why he struggled. But muscular issues and everything is perfect and now he is much, much, much better. Now it’s a question of time.”

“Of course, we need him. And yes, he was good (against Liverpool). On Thursday he finished good.”
