Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson could be set to miss six matches during a crucial period of the campaign after suffering a thigh injury against Liverpool.

The 30-year-old was forced off during Manchester City’s enthralling 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday afternoon just minutes after conceding an early second-half penalty, following a calamitous collision with Darwin Nunez in the box.

The Brazilian was replaced by Stefan Ortega on Merseyside, with the German goalkeeper set to play a major role in the Sky Blues’ silverware hopes, after discovering that Ederson is set for a period on the sidelines.

The 31-year-old, who moved to Manchester City from Arminia Bielefeld on a free transfer in 2022, made a number of important saves after being introduced against Liverpool on the 56th minute.

Pep Guardiola’s side had to settle for a point on Sunday afternoon, as Alexis Mac Allister’s penalty cancelled out John Stones’ 23rd minute goal, following a smart set-piece routine by the treble-winners.

The draw leaves Manchester City one point behind both Liverpool and Arsenal in the Premier League title race with just 10 matches remaining, with the Blues currently bidding to win a record-breaking fourth consecutive title.

City could even still retain last season’s historic treble, having recently qualified for both the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals and Emirates FA Cup quarter-finals.

Any silverware ambitions could be impacted by a change in goalkeeper at the Etihad Stadium, with a thigh injury reportedly set to see Ederson miss ‘three to four weeks’ of action.

The 30-year-old, who is now a major doubt for a pivotal Premier League clash with Arsenal later this month, could be set to miss up to six matches for both Manchester City and Brazil due to the injury sustained against Liverpool.

Ederson looks set to miss upcoming games against Newcastle, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace, as well as potentially the first-leg of Manchester City’s Champions League quarter-final tie.

The goalkeeper is also now expected to be absent for Brazil’s upcoming friendlies against both England and Spain later this month.
