A new round of reporting has linked Manchester City with a staggering summer move for AC Milan and Portugal international Rafael Leao.

The ongoing season may only just be entering the business phase of the campaign, but transfer rumours concerning the Premier League champions ahead of the next summer market are beginning to intensify throughout global sporting media.

Just this week, Manchester City saw themselves tenuously linked with an interest in want-away Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe, despite the Frenchman widely expected to join Spanish giants Real Madrid.

However, remaining on the front of blisteringly fast forward talents, last season’s Treble winners have now been linked with a move for one of the most exciting names in the Italian game.

That is according to the information of Spanish media outlet Fichajes, as translated and relayed by SempreMilan, who state that there is interest from England in AC Milan attacker Rafael Leao, with Manchester City ready to make a ‘super offer’ for the player.

It is claimed that despite recently signing a new contract with his current club, Etihad bosses are not put off, and would be willing to offer €100 million for the highly-rated Portugal international winger.

However, it is reminded that with Rafael Leao’s Milan release clause being worth €150 million, clubs would likely be rebuffed should they make any approach that is significantly less than the aforementioned valuation.

Leao is undergoing a somewhat average season on a statistical front by his very high standards, registering 30 appearances across all competitions for the Milan club, scoring seven goals and providing eight assists in the process.

Rafael Leao first joined Milan back in the summer of 2019, putting pen to paper on a long-term five-year contract at the San Siro for a reported transfer fee of €35 million plus a 20% sell-on clause.

It remains to be seen just whether Manchester City do in fact hold an interest in Leao, or whether paper talk remains just that, however there is an understanding in some quarters that should an opportunity in wide attacking positions present itself, then Etihad officials would not be opposed to strengthening the role.
