Manchester City have somewhat surprisingly been linked with a tenuous interest in French superstar Kylian Mbappe, according to reports.

It was reported earlier this week by various reliable sources throughout football that Kylian Mbappé has now informed Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al Khelaifi that he will leave the club as free agent.

While terms of the French international’s departure are yet to be fully agreed, it is now widely believed that Mbappe will be donning the colours of another of Europe’s premier clubs from the start of next season.

Real Madrid are likely to win the race for Mbappe given their long-standing interest in the player, and the forward’s interest in a move to the Spanish capital, but competition from other clubs may complicate a deal.

That is according to the information of Spanish outlet Cadena SER, as translated and relayed by MailSport, who report that Manchester City met with one of Kylian Mbappe’s representatives a day before he told PSG of his intention to leave the French capital.

It is claimed that club officials from the Etihad Stadium spoke with one member of Mbappe’s entourage in an ‘informal capacity’ on Monday in Manchester, despite Real Madrid continuing to be viewed as the favourites for the 25-year-old’s signature.

Manchester City would undoubtedly have the finances available to secure Mbappe this summer, however their attentions are far more likely to be focussed on other positions during the upcoming summer market.

Pep Guardiola could see Bernardo Silva linked with another summer-long transfer saga, and as such instruct his colleagues to review the market for opportunities in midfield, alongside their long-standing requirement to find a dependable back-up to Rodri.

City may also seek reinforcements in defence, however concrete options in either of those position have been few and far between, while Savio became the first signing in a wide attacking role in the last few days.
