Pep Guardiola could yet lose another face from his first-team squad in the coming days, with the Turkish transfer market closing on February 9 and fresh interest emerging.

Manchester City closed out their own January window with very little in the way of major transfer business, with Claudio Echeverri and Kalvin Phillips’ respective deals being the most notable in the winter window.

Echeverri and River Plate agreed a long-term deal with Manchester City that will see one of Argentina’s most exciting prospects move to the Etihad Stadium at the end of the calendar year after extending his stay with his current club via a loan deal.

As for Kalvin Phillips, the out-of-favour defensive midfielder completed a temporary switch to West Ham United, joining David Moyes’ side on a six-month loan agreement in the hope of securing consistent game time ahead of the European Championships.

Phillips’ fellow out-of-favour Manchester City teammate Sergio Gomez is now being linked with a move away, as one club looks to take advantage of their transfer window remaining open until the upcoming weekend.

That is according to the information of Turkish news outlet Fotomac, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, who report that Galatasaray have now added Manchester City’s versatile defensive option Sergio Gomez to their transfer target list for the ongoing market.

While England’s transfer window shut at the start of February, Turkish clubs can continue to negotiate deals both in and out of their respective sides until February 9, meaning Pep Guardiola’s squad could be cut even shorter in the coming days.

The Turkish giants are reportedly ‘wanting to sign’ Manchester City’s 23-year-old Spaniard in the next few days, with Sergio Gomez said to fit into the requirements of the club’s manager, Okan Buruk.

Sergio Gomez joined Manchester City from RSC Anderlecht in the summer market of 2022, making the switch to the eventual Treble winners at the same time as Stefan Ortega Moreno, Erling Haaland, and the previously mentioned Kalvin Phillips.

While largely being utilised as a left-back option when called upon, Gomez is able to operate in central midfield roles as well as across the forward line, as showcased in his duties with Spain’s under-21 set-up.
