Pep Guardiola makes major Manchester City contract decision amid Jurgen Klopp exit
Pep Guardiola has dropped a major hint over his future at Manchester City when speaking about Jurgen Klopp’s pending Liverpool exit.
The English football world was rocked Friday morning when the Liverpool boss announced he will be leaving the club at the end of the season, leaving Manchester City fans to begrudgingly begin thinking about a world without Pep Guardiola.
The Manchester City boss still has one year remaining on his Manchester City contract, but after winning the treble last season, questions surrounding his motivation to remain at City have frequently been asked.
Nonetheless, there has been little spoken by Guardiola or the Etihad club regarding his future as the clock continues to tick on his current contract – that was until after Manchester City beat Tottenham in the FA Cup fourth round Friday evening.
Speaking at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after City earned their first victory their since the ground opened in 2019, Guardiola dropped a major hint when asked if he, like Jurgen Klopp, was running out of energy.
“I’m fine, I want to do it still for one more year, and maybe extend,” said Guardiola.
It will be music to the ears of Manchester City fans to hear that the club’s most successful manager is keen on staying, and perhaps even extending his time at the Etihad.
Much has been made about City being the perfect environment for the Catalan manager, and one will have to wonder if he sees no other destinations as an upgrade given his current circumstances at the club.
That future at the club may be even rosier now that Jurgen Klopp is heading for the exit, says Guardiola.
“I will sleep better, the days before playing Liverpool were almost a nightmare.”
“I was shocked by the news and I felt a part of Man City would lose something. We cannot define our period here without him and Liverpool, it is impossible.”
