Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips could leave the Etihad Stadium this week, as West Ham bid to complete a deal for the England international.

The 28-year-old is currently training with Manchester City in Abu Dhabi as part of Pep Guardiola’s first-team warm-weather training camp, but could complete an exit from the club upon arriving back in the United Kingdom.

Phillips is expected to leave Manchester City on loan for the remainder of the campaign, as the midfielder bids to boost his hopes of being selected by Gareth Southgate for this summer’s European Championship.

The former Leeds United star moved from Elland Road to Manchester City for £42 million in July 2022, however has made just six starts for the Sky Blues across the past 18 months.

Phillips was part of Guardiola’s treble-winning squad last season, winning the Premier League, Emirates FA Cup and UEFA Champions League during his debut campaign.

The England international also scored his first Manchester City goal in December, netting from the penalty spot against Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League group stages.

Phillips hasn’t featured for the Blues since a FIFA Club World Cup semi-final victory last month, and the 28-year-old could have made his final appearance for the club, as West Ham close in on signing the midfielder.

Jacob Steinberg reports that the Hammers are ‘hopeful’ of signing Phillips for the remainder of the season this week, with David Moyes’ side ‘pushing’ to complete a deal to bring the midfielder to the London Stadium.

An agreement is yet to be reached between Manchester City and West Ham, but the east London club are ‘confident’ of securing a deal, with the two parties looking to compromise on demands set out by Etihad chiefs.

West Ham are seeking to swiftly conclude talks amid interest from Premier League rivals Newcastle United, Crystal Palace and Fulham.

Juventus, who have previously been linked with signing Phillips, could also reportedly make a ‘late move’ for the midfielder.

Manchester City are not currently expected to sign a replacement for Phillips during the remaining days of the transfer window, but are set to complete the signing of River Plate teenager Claudio Echeverri.
