Manchester City starlets make bold treble predictions
Phil Foden and Rico Lewis believe Manchester City can do back-to-back trebles after achieving the triumph last season.
Manchester City are away in Abu Dhabi for warm-weather training as they prepare for the back-half of the 2023/24 campaign, but they will soon return from their break to square off with Tottenham in the FA Cup fourth round.
The Etihad outfit are still less than a year removed from completing a historic treble, becoming just the second English club to win the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League in the same season.
While that triumph is clearly quite rare, City starlets Phil Foden and Rico Lewis have both expressed their confidence in their side repeating the achievement this season.
“It shows how far the club has come,” Foden said in an interview with the National News. “Now we’re favourites to try to do it again and it just shows the pressure on us.
“But being the team we are, we always want to try to achieve the best things and why not try and do it again?”
Foden’s teammate Rico Lewis is equally as motivated to win all three trophies once again. The midfielder even hinted at major trophy haul’s becoming an expected outcome for the Etihad club these days.
“Obviously, every season is different but I feel the same again,” said Lewis. “With the players we’ve got, there’s no reason why we don’t aim to try to win everything all over again.
“It’s not good enough at Manchester City just to win something once and I think we can do it again.”
After 20 games this season, City sit five points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, but the Blues do have a game in hand on Jurgen Klopp’s men.
Meanwhile in continental duties, Pep Guardiola’s side will square off with Danish side FC Copenhagen in the Champions League round of 16 in February as City look to book their spot in the quarterfinals for the seventh consecutive season.
