Manchester City’s Phil Foden has been crowned as the 2023/24 Premier League Player of the Season by the top-flight panel, it has been announced on Saturday.

The Manchester City Academy graduate has enjoyed his finest personal season to date since his breakthrough into the club’s first team squad back in 2017, offering greater influence in the goalscoring department through his new-found role in the centre of the park.

With the absence of Kevin De Bruyne for the large part of the campaign due to injury, Foden has been required to operate in the advanced midfield role, whilst also being utilised in wider operations in certain matches.

Across Phil Foden’s 34 Premier League matches to date, the Manchester City star has recorded an outstanding 17 goals and provided a further eight assists, scoring two separate hat-tricks in the process for the club this season.

And it is that form that has now been recognised by the Premier League themselves this weekend, with Phil Foden now having been named as the recipient for the division’s leading award for players.

As per confirmation from the Premier League on Saturday, Manchester City and England star Phil Foden has been named 2023/24 Premier League Player of the Season, ahead of a number of the division’s finest stars from across the campaign.

The 23-year-old playmaker not only beat competition away from fellow City attacking star Erling Haaland, but also Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, Arsenal’s Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, and Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk.

Reacting to news of the award, Phil Foden explained, “To win this award is an achievement that I am extremely proud of. The Premier League is acknowledged as the greatest league in the world, and it is a pleasure to have been nominated with so many other great players who have all enjoyed special seasons for their clubs.”

He continued, “Overall, I’ve been very happy with the way I have played this season and really pleased that I have been able to contribute with the goals and assists throughout the season. I’d like to thank all of the City staff, coaches and especially my teammates because without them this wouldn’t be possible.

“And I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who voted for me as the award means a lot.”

Phil Foden and his Manchester City teammates could yet end the season with a collective award of their own, knowing that victory over West Ham on the final day of the season would crown them top-flight champions for a fourth successive season.
