Omar Berrada has brought an end to a hugely successful time with Manchester City to take up a role of CEO at Manchester United, it has been confirmed this week.

Berrada’s exit from the Etihad Stadium operation and the global City Football Group business brings an end to a nine-year career with the football club, operating in four different roles across the organisation.

Omar Berrada’s most recent position was that of Chief Operating Officer for Manchester City, while his previous positions included the likes of Senior Vice-President Group Commercial Director and Head of International Business Development.

Those roles with Manchester City followed on from important positions with FC Barcelona, however his importance to the Premier League champions cannot be understated any more than by Manchester United’s glowing reference of the official.

As highlighted by Manchester United in their statement confirming news around Omar Berrada, the Premier League champions have lost “one of the most experienced football executives at the top of European football”.

Alongside the successes on the field seen by Manchester City over the years, United also state that Berrada brings with him “a wealth of football and commercial expertise”, with a “proven record of successful leadership and a passion” that can aid change across Old Trafford’s operation.

Confirming the news over the weekend, Manchester City’s own statement read, “Manchester City Football Club can confirm that Omar Berrada has resigned from his role as chief football operations officer at City Football Group.

“The club understands his decision to look for a new challenge and he leaves with our thanks and best wishes.”

Omar Berrada will likely take up his new role with city rivals Manchester United at the end of the ongoing season.
