Manchester City are set to earn over £4 million for the involvement of their players at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

16 members of Pep Guardiola’s squad were selected to represent their nations at the tournament in Qatar, with Julian Alvarez of Argentina the only City player to reach the final.

The involvement of over a dozen City first-team players will reportedly lead to the Premier League Champions earning the largest sum of money from FIFA.

Gareth Southgate named five Blues players as part of his England squad, while Bernardo Silva, Joao Cancelo and Ruben Dias were all selected for Portugal.

Rodri and Aymeric Laporte both featured for Spain; with Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, Manuel Akanji, Ederson, Nathan Ake and Alvarez also all involved in the Middle East.

As a result, Martyn Ziegler reports that the Sky Blues will pocket around £4.5 million, the most of any club in the world.

The FIFA Club Benefits Programme is set to distribute a share of $209 million, equalling around £8,100 per day that a club’s player was in Qatar.

The Times also report that clubs will also receive payments for last months week-long preparation period, which took place before the start of the tournament.

Manchester City suffered defeat in their final Premier League outing before the Qatar World Cup, losing 2-1 to Brentford at the Etihad Stadium.

City return to league action away to Leeds United on Wednesday 28th December, with the Blues currently five points behind league leaders Arsenal.

Guardiola’s side return to competitive action on Thursday 22nd December when they host Liverpool in the Fourth Round of the Carabao Cup.
