Borussia Dortmund among clubs interested in Manchester City forward – Stance revealed alongside contract update
Manchester City and Norway international forward Oscar Bobb is at the centre of major transfer interest during the ongoing January transfer window, according to reports.
The 20-year-old has firmly integrated himself as a regular feature and crucial component of Pep Guardiola’s first-team matchday squads this season, excelling following the departure of former Academy star Cole Palmer to Chelsea.
Bobb took on yet more action during the weekend’s FA Cup win over Huddersfield Town, providing the crucial action to force one of Manchester City’s five goals on the afternoon and secure their place in the fourth round of the competition where Spurs await.
Speaking after another starring role from Bobb, manager Pep Guardiola said of his latest breakthrough talent, “He is a guy who receives the ball as a striker in the pockets and his first turn – he is quite similar to Phil (Foden).
“He is an incredible threat – he was lucky for the goal but her has to be there and after he had two or three shots blocked. It’s another 90 minutes and always he has played – in pre-season, in the Red Star game and as a substitute – at a high, high level.”
Guardiola continued, “It’s another player from the Academy coming here and it’s good.”
However, Manchester City may have to fight to retain the services of the player for the second-half of the season, and according to the latest reports they have done a perfect job of doing just that following the first week of the January market.
According to the information of Manchester City insider ‘Tolmie’s Hairdoo’ on X, the Premier League champions have rejected ‘a number of loan offers’ for rising attacking talent Oscar Bobb in the ongoing January window.
Among the clubs understood to be holding an interest in the player is Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund, with the German club said to be ‘keen’ on Oscar Bobb but with ‘nothing doing’.
As for Manchester City and their stance on the player, it is reported that Etihad Stadium bosses remain ‘hopeful’ that a new deal until 2029 will be agreed with Oscar Bobb and his representatives ‘shortly’.
Despite opportunities to go elsewhere on multiple occasions following his breakthrough into the Manchester City first-team squad, Oscar Bobb himself has personally admitted a desire to remain at the Etihad Stadium and learn from Pep Guardiola and teammates.
Speaking after last summer’s speculation, Bobb explained, “My agents and the club take care of that (contract talks). I don’t know anything. That would be cool (staying at Mancherster City for the rest of his life)… I feel like I have a lot to grow on. In my head, I can get a lot smarter.”
Bobb is likely to be afforded plenty more opportunities during the second-half of the season in Sky Blue, with his talents offering Pep Guardiola a different dimension for matches that specifically suit the Norway international’s game.
