Manchester City’s Treble success was predicted by one first-team star
The historic Treble success achieved by Manchester City last season was predicted by one member of Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad, the player himself has revealed.
City claimed a third successive Premier League title despite intense pressure from Arsenal throughout last season, but went on to achieve even more under Pep Guardiola in the weeks that followed the English top-flight success.
An FA Cup final victory over bitter rivals Manchester United placed increasing pressure on Manchester City to complete a Treble in Istanbul, before a single goal from Rodri claimed their first ever UEFA Champions League crown over Inter last June.
While some sections of the football community were left astounded by the levels reached by Pep Guardiola’s playing squad, Manchester City’s star academy graduate and first-team regular Rico Lewis has revealed that is was something he predicted months in advance.
Speaking to ManCity.com, Rico Lewis revealed, “At the start of the season I thought we were going to win the Treble. I told my dad, I told everyone.
“It’s easy to say that now but I actually did think we would. It’s amazing to win it but for myself, I’d like to be more a part of it in the future.”
Rico Lewis’ development under Pep Guardiola has taken on even greater heights this season, advancing from a defensive midfield role into an attacking midfield position, and complimenting Manchester City’s attacking options in further.
The 19-year-old’s exceptional standards and abilities were highlighted even further during the UEFA Champions League group stage, when he put in Man of the Match worthy performances during away trips to RB Leipzig and BSC Young Boys, as well as the reverse fixture with the German side.
