Manchester City could be subjected to significant transfer interest for one of the club’s most promising young stars, with a new report linking AC Milan with an interest.

Yan Couto is rapidly emerging as one of the most exciting offensive full-back talents in the European game this season, developing his skillset with the current La Liga leaders Girona whilst on-loan from Manchester City.

The 21-year-old’s one goal and three assists across 12 Spanish top-flight appearances so far this season have seen him rewarded by an appearance with the senior Brazil international squad, and the watchful eyes of other crucial figures in the game have not stopped there.

A new report has detailed that Couto could now be attracting interest from one of the major players within the Italian game, with the next summer transfer window expected to be an important moment in the player’s developing career.

According to the information of Italian newspaper Calciomercato, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, Serie A giants AC Milan have their eyes set on Manchester City-owned full-back Yan Couto for the 2024 summer transfer window.

The report details that Milan technical director Geoffrey Moncada is ‘crazy’ about the 21-year-old and has ‘total appreciation’ for the Brazil international, however the Italian club are aware a deal will not be simple due to the full-back being ‘controlled’ by Manchester City.

Such is the highly-rated nature of the player at the Etihad Stadium that the report claims they could make Couto the ‘heir’ to Kyle Walker – who is entering the twilight years of his esteemed Premier League career.

Yan Couto first joined Manchester City in the summer of 2020, having been strongly linked with a move to FC Barcelona, signing a five-year contract with the Premier League champions that became effective from July 1.

Couto’s first loan move was to Girona during their time in the Spanish Segunda Division on a season-long loan, before joining SC Braga for the 2021/22 campaign, and re-joining Girona for the following season.

The 2023/24 campaign marks Yan Couto’s third season on loan with Girona, but by far and away the most successful from a collective point of view, as Michel’s side lead the Premier League table by two points ahead of Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
