Manchester City have joined several Premier League clubs in the race to sign Schalke teenager Assan Ouedraogo.

Manchester City have developed a reputation for signing some of Europe’s brightest teenage prospects, with the City Football Academy enjoying incredible recent success, and continuing to sign and develop some of the best footballers across the game.

The club have made over £400 million in City Football Academy sales to date, with the summer departure of Cole Palmer to Chelsea for £42.5 million becoming the highest profile exit from the Etihad Stadium’s academy.

Manchester City sold goalkeeper James Trafford to Burnley for £19 million, and also secured sizeable transfer fees for Carlos Borges, Shea Charles and Tommy Doyle during the recent summer window.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis could fetch a £20 million transfer fee, meanwhile the likes of James McAtee and Maximo Perrone could return to the Manchester City first-team following season-long loan spells.

Manchester City are now reportedly eying a move for another teenage sensation, Schalke star, Assan Ouedraogo.

The 17-year-old, who has been a shining light amidst a dismal start to the campaign for Schalke in the German second division, is drawing interest from a series of top Premier League sides, according to outlet 90min.

The German youngster has made nine appearances for Schalke so far this season, and has agreed to sign a long-term contract at the club upon turning 18 in May 2024.

However, continued financial problems could lead to Schalke cashing in on their midfield prodigy, as a number of Premier League clubs monitor the developments of the 17-year-old.

Manchester City, Chelsea, Newcastle, Brentford, Brighton and West Ham are all claimed to be interested in signing Ouedraogo.

The six Premier League clubs could face further competition for the midfielder’s signature, as 90min further report that Ouedraogo has suitors in Spain, Germany and France.

Bayer Leverkusen are “keen” on signing the German midfielder, meanwhile Atletico Madrid, Valencia, Lens, Marseille and Nice also hold an interest.
