Manchester City considered a move for Bayern Munich forward Kingsley Coman prior to the signing of Rennes star Jeremy Doku.

The treble-winners completed the signing of the 21-year-old Belgium international on Thursday, with the potential for Doku to make his Manchester City debut against Sheffield United on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester City signed the former Rennes right-winger for £55.4 million, amid late interest from Premier League trio West Ham, Tottenham and Chelsea.

Doku, who will wear the number 11 shirt at the Etihad Stadium, replaces the departed Riyad Mahrez at Manchester City following the Algerian’s £30 million move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli.

The 21-year-old is the third addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad this summer, after Croatian pair Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol signed for the Sky Blues from Chelsea and RB Leipzig.

Doku was reportedly part of a shortlist of three players considered to replace Mahrez, with Crystal Palace star Michael Olise and Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman also featuring.

Fabrice Hawkins claims that Bayern Munich rejected interest from Manchester City, who considered a move for the 27-year-old forward.

The Frenchman, who has played for PSG, Juventus and Bayern Munich, has won 29 major trophies during his career, including eight Bundesliga titles.

Coman was also linked with a potential move to Manchester City in 2021, when the Blues eventually signed Jack Grealish from Aston Villa for a record-breaking £100 million.

The 27-year-old joins a growing list of player’s to be linked between Manchester City and Bayern Munich during the summer transfer window, amid interest from the German club in the Blues’ Stefan Ortega, Kyle Walker, Julian Alvarez and Kalvin Phillips.

Manchester City also weighed up a move for Michael Olise this summer, however the 21-year-old signed a new contract at Selhurst Park, despite Chelsea triggering the forward’s £35 million release clause.

Following the arrival of a new winger, Manchester City are still looking to sign a midfielder, with Matheus Nunes of Wolves and Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze both mooted.
