Manchester City have completed their third signing of the 2023 summer transfer window, with Jeremy Doku signing from Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais.

The Premier League champions confirmed the arrival of the 21-year-old on Thursday evening, with the Belgium international signing a five-year deal at the Etihad Stadium running until the summer of 2028.

Jeremy Doku joins the squad following Riyad Mahrez’s departure for Saudi Arabia in a reported £30 million deal, with the young winger viewed as a like-for-like replacement for the legendary Algerian forward in Sky Blue.

However, many have been left wondering when Doku could finally make his much-awaited debut for the Premier League champions, amid Pep Guardiola’s confirmed absence from the first-team squad following emergency back surgery.

It is understood that Jeremy Doku will be available for selection on Sunday afternoon, as Juanma Lillo takes charge of Manchester City in their third Premier League contest of the campaign – a trip to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United.

Bernardo Silva is also expected to be available after the Portugal international signed a new one-year contract extension through to 2026, upon recovering from an illness that kept him out of contests against Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup, as well as Newcastle United.

Doku could feature for Manchester City this weekend alongside fellow summer recruits in Josko Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic, after the Croatia international duo signed for the club earlier this summer from RB Leipzig and Chelsea respectively.

City are expected to remain active in the market following the arrival of Doku, and are looking towards signing a new central midfielder, with Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Matheus Nunes of primary interest at present.
