Manchester City are expected to submit a formal bid for Rennes forward Jeremy Doku next week, as per a new report.

Doku features high on City’s list of potential replacements for Riyad Mahrez, who completed a £30 million transfer to Saudi-Arabian club Al-Ahli in July.

City are not considering a move for either Barcelona’s Raphinha or RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo despite suggestions, as City Xtra exclusively revealed last month.

The European champions were till recently believed to be still locked in the process of identifying their ideal replacement for Mahrez, with interest indicated in Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise as well as Doku.

It was reported on Friday evening that personal terms have been agreed between Manchester City and Doku’s representatives, with the Blues having kept tabs on the 21-year-old since his exploits at the Kevin De Bruyne (KDB) Cup in Belgium in 2019.

Moreover, reports in France detailed that Manchester City are working to close a deal for Doku as fast as possible, with a decision pending on the immediate future of academy graduate Cole Palmer.

According to Jack Gaughan of the Daily Mail, Rennes are expecting a bid from City in the coming week for Doku, who is valued at over £30 million by the Ligue 1 club.

After signing Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol this summer, Manchester City remain in negotiations with West Ham over the signing of Lucas Paqueta, who is seen as an ideal replacement for Ilkay Gundogan in attacking midfield.

It is believed that West Ham will demand over £90 million from the Premier League champions for Paqueta, with Kevin De Bruyne’s most recent hamstring injury sustained in City’s league opener against Burnley also expected to impact the Hammers’ asking price for the 25-year-old.
