Manchester City’s Premier League fixture against Brentford at the Etihad Stadium has been postponed.

Pep Guardiola’s side, who lost twice to Brentford last season in the Premier League, have seen the December clash postponed due to Manchester City’s planned involvement in the FIFA Club World Cup.

City suffered a 2-1 defeat at the Etihad Stadium to Brentford last year courtesy of an Ivan Toney brace, while the Sky Blues also lost 1-0 on the final day of the Premier League campaign to the West London club.

Ethan Pinnock’s 85th minute strike meant Manchester City concluded their title-winning season with defeat, as a 25-match unbeaten run came to an anti-climatic end at the Brentford Community Stadium.

The Blues were due to face The Bees at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday 23rd December and travel to West London for the reverse fixture on Saturday 3rd February 2024.

However, Manchester City’s maiden Champions League win over Inter Milan in Istanbul last month has seen the Blues qualify for the FIFA Club World Cup, which is due to take place in Saudi Arabia, between December 12th and December 20th.

As a result, Manchester City versus Brentford at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday 23rd December has been postponed, with new date is yet to be announced.

FIFA have revealed that the tournament will be played in the King Abdullah Sport City Stadium and Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Stadium, holding approximately 62,000 and 27,000 spectators, respectively.

Guardiola’s side will enter the competition at the semi-final stages, but can’t face the winners of the Copa Libertadores until the Final, should both teams qualify.

As a result of winning the Champions League, City have also qualified for the extended Club World Cup in the USA in 2025 and the UEFA Super Cup next month.

Manchester City will travel to Athens to play Sevilla in between Premier League matches against Burnley and Newcastle United.
