Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will compete alongside Rafael Nadal and other celebrities in the ‘Battle of the Stars’ next week, with proceeds supporting the fight against ALS.

It has been one of the greatest seasons of Pep Guardiola’s career, with the Catalan coach guiding his Manchester City side to a historic treble.

The Citizens wrapped up the Premier League title with several games to go, before defeating rivals Manchester United 2-1 in the FA Cup final thanks to a brace from captain Ilkay Gundogan.

Last week, Rodri’s second-half goal at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul sealed a 1-0 win over Inter Milan to hand the club its first ever Champions League trophy and make City the first treble-winning English side since 1999.

But Pep Guardiola will swap the sidelines for the golf course next week when he takes part in the ‘Battle of the Stars’, at Mallorca’s Pula Golf Resort and Son Servera Golf Club, from June 22-24.

Guardiola is a keen golfer, once stating that he was on his way home from an afternoon with Tommy Fleetwood when he won his first Premier League title. The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager has also joked that he would swap half his incredible trophy haul for a decent golf swing.

He returns to play Pula Golf’s par-72 course after playing in the annual Legends Trophy last year against the likes of Ronald Koeman, Ruud Gullit and Gianfranco Zola.

Other big names confirmed for the Battle of the Stars include tennis legend Rafael Nadal, iconic Argentine striker Gabriel Batistuta and Atlético Madrid forward Alvaro Morata. They headline a host of former La Liga players, TV stars and influencers from the Spanish-speaking world.

At Pula, Pep Guardiola and co will be playing on a respected course that staged an event on the DP World Tour for five consecutive years from 2003.

Two-time Masters champion José María Olazábal completely redesigned the course in 2006, and the venue is in the running to be named ‘Europe’s Best Golf Venue’ at the 2023 World Golf Awards.

An acronym for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, ALS is rare and degenerative disease that damages nerve cells and has a progressive impact on voluntary muscle movement. Proceeds from the Battle of the Stars will be donated to research committed to combatting the condition.
