A new report has shone light on an element of Manchester City’s preparations for a possible Premier League title celebration on Sunday afternoon.

Pep Guardiola’s side are one win away from a fifth Premier League trophy in the last six years, as Frank Lampard’s Chelsea visit the Etihad Stadium in what will be the final home game of the season for Manchester City this season.

The chance to win their first piece of silverware of the season comes just days after a historic night in the north-west, as the City squad booked a place in their second Champions League final courtesy of a 4-0 win over Real Madrid.

Two goals from Bernardo Silva were complimented by strikes from Manuel Akanji and Julian Alvarez, to send Manchester City to Istanbul ahead of a showdown with Inter next month – sparking boozy celebrations in the home dressing room on Wednesday night.

But all was not as it seemed, a new report has detailed.

According to the information of Matt Hughes of the Mail, security staff at Manchester City removed 60 bottles of champagne that had been ordered for the home dressing room following the win over Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

City boss Pep Guardiola has banned celebrations until his squad have won their first trophy of an ongoing treble pursuit, with club officials told that the champagne had in fact been dispatched in error by hospitality staff and was intended for Sunday, as per the Mail.

Hughes also reveals that Guardiola has promised to take the entire Manchester City squad and their families out for a celebratory meal and drinks at the end of the season, regardless of their success on a silverware front.

City saw a first start across all competitions, before the World Cup break and the exhaustion that followed saw the squad endure a significant dip in performances – especially in the Premier League.

At one stage this season, Pep Guardiola and his players fell eight points behind Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, leaving many supporters wondering whether the man who was once employed by Manchester City would be the brain behind an Emirates Stadium title win.

Such a possibility now looks to be a distance away, as City could even win their third successive Premier League title should Nottingham Forest defeat Arsenal at the City Ground on Saturday evening.
