Pep Guardiola has explained Manchester City’s habit of going on incredible winning runs in the Premier League run-in ahead of their midweek meeting with Arsenal.

The reigning champions face off against the league leaders at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night in a fixture that is bound to have major implications on the title race.

Arsenal lead City by five points heading into the fixture but Guardiola’s men have two games in hand over the north Londoners, who have drawn each of their last three league outings.

On the other hand, City have clicked into gear in recent months and have won all but one of their previous 12 games across all competitions, sealing places in the Champions League semi-final and FA Cup final in the process.

The Blues, who have won four league titles under Guardiola, are renowned to excel in the business stage of the campaign, where they seem flawless and take every game by the scruff of the neck in their pursuit of glory on various fronts.

Ahead of a potential title decider against Arsenal on Wednesday, Guardiola was asked how City manage to carry and build on their momentum in the run-in.

On whether conditioning and specific training regimes are part of City’s mantra, Guardiola said: “I never believe about the training conditions. People say when we lose the game the first argument is the physicality is not good. That is bull****.

“My team arrive at the end of the season, knowing if they lose games – it will be over. That’s why in October, November – you can’t have that feeling.”

City could play 12 further times until the end of the season should they progress to their second Champions League final in three years at the cost of current holders Real Madrid, who beat the English champions at the same stage last term.

The games are coming as fast as they come for the six-time Premier League champions, who have endured lengthy winning streaks under their Catalan manager since their 100-point league winning season.

“When we got 100 points (in the 2017/18 campaign), we started everything is a final, when we start seasons after back-to-back titles they don’t feel finals,” Guardiola added.

“But now I get that feeling, because it’s really really close. To arrive at this point in the league to have the chances in the hands, but they have the chance to the destiny will be in their hands, but if we win destiny will be in our hands in the seven games left we have.”

City can take a giant step towards their third Premier League title on the trot with a win over Arsenal as the Blues dream of a historic treble of trophies come the end of the season.
