Nathan Ake has revealed the immediate Manchester City dressing room response to Tuesday’s emphatic 3-0 quarter-final first-leg win over Bayern Munich at the Etihad Stadium.

Goals from Rodri, Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland helped Manchester City take a major step towards the UEFA Champions League semi-finals on Tuesday night, as the Blues convincingly beat Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

City will take a three goal advantage to the Allianz Arena next Wednesday, with Pep Guardiola looking to knock his former club out of the competition and set up a final four clash against either Chelsea or Real Madrid.

The Blues extended their current winning run in all competitions to nine matches, beating Bayern Munich with an impressive all-round display at the Etihad Stadium.

Rodri opened the scoring in the 27th minute with an incredible curling effort from outside the area before Bernardo doubled City’s lead in the 70th minute with a close range header.

Haaland scored his 45th goal of the season six minutes later, smashing in at the back post after John Stones’ leaping header back across goal.

City will take a commanding lead to Munich next week, but after last years dramatic collapse against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu, defender Nathan Ake revealed that the squad are not getting carried away by Tuesday’s first-leg triumph.

“Everyone tells each other straight away that it’s not finished, we’ve got an important game at the weekend and then there’s the Munich game,” said the Dutch international.

“It was good, everyone was happy. It was a good feeling but also knowing that we still have to finish the job, it’s not finished yet, everyone knows that and I think that’s the mentality that the club has, the players have.

“We know it’s going to be a totally different game so we just have to focus on that and make sure we go through to the next round.”
