Manchester City have now made an official proposal to star striker Julián Álvarez over an extended contract, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 23 year-old has gone from strength to strength since signing for Manchester City during the winter transfer window of 2022, and officially joining up with Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad last summer.

While the Argentina international’s performances at club level have impressed many – particularly City’s head coach Pep Guardiola – his showings at international level have led to a huge desire from within the club to improve his contractual terms.

Most recently, during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Julián Álvarez played an important role in Argentina’s successful pursuit of winning the competition, both through the providing of goals and assists alongside legendary teammate Lionel Messi.

The latest on the situation and City’s desire to extend the youngster’s contract has seen a significant development this week, with an official offer now on the table, according to a new update.

That update has been provided by transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City have now made an official proposal to Julián Álvarez to extend his contract by an additional year – running until 2028 – on improved terms.

However, for the time being, it is clarified that there is no ‘full green light’ from the side of the player, and as such no extended contract can be considered 100% agreed.

With that being said, Romano reports that the Argentine World Cup winner has to decide in the next weeks, and probably within the month of March.

Julián Álvarez can expect a significant increase in his game-time under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City across the course of the coming weeks, as the club fixture schedule becomes increasingly straining on squads during the business end of the season.

Álvarez most recently played a major part in City’s latest victory, as they cruised to a 1-4 win over AFC Bournemouth on the south coast to move back to within two points of the current league leaders Arsenal.

The former River Plate man offered an unrivalled intensity in Manchester City’s attacking line – complimented by the likes of Erling Haaland, Jack Grealish and Phil Foden – and was rewarded for his efforts with the opening goal of the contest.

Julián Álvarez will now turn his attentions to an FA Cup fifth round tie against Bristol City at Ashton Gate on Tuesday night – a contest in which the Argentine will be confident of starting once again.
