Manchester City have completed a double acquisition from Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The academy system at the Etihad Stadium has been one of the most successful in the Premier League in recent years, and this season in particular, has seen one of the finest breakthrough talents since Phil Foden’s emergence in 2017.

Rico Lewis – an academy graduate from Manchester City – has shown serious challenge for the main right-back role at the Club, and has often kept out the likes of Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo since the restart of club football following the FIFA World Cup.

Lewis’ emergence into the regular first-team set-up is just one of many examples of Manchester City’s fine academy work reaping it’s rewards, and that process looks set to continue with the hiring of two Premier League scouts.

As per the information of Fabrizio Romano on Monday, Premier League champions Manchester City have successfully hired two youth scouts from Wolverhampton Wanderers, with Sean Murphy and Brad Wall set to join the club in the first week of April.

It is further revealed that both Murphy and Wall rejected offers from other clubs including Newcastle United in order to join the City Football Academy project – an ongoing process as Manchester City seek young British talent.

Elsewhere, and back in January, Manchester City confirmed that their Academy Director Jason Wilcox would be leaving the football club at the end of the 2022/23 season, to take up a new role at Southampton.

Wilcox is expected to become the south coast Premier League club’s new director of football, taking a lead on infrastructure, first-team, Academy, recruitment and sports performance and analysis activity.
