Serdar Gözübüyük to referee RB Leipzig vs Manchester City in Champions League last-16 first-leg

Serdar Gözübüyük will lead an all-Dutch team of Match Officials when RB Leipzig host Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday evening.

City, who stumbled to a disappointing 1-1 against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, resume their bid to win a maiden Champions League title in midweek.

Pep Guardiola’s side were unbeaten throughout the group stages and set-up a last 16 tie against Bundesliga club RB Leipzig.

The German outfit are familiar opponents to the Blues, with the two meeting in the group phases last season.

City won a thrilling clash 6-3 at the Etihad Stadium but fell to a 2-1 loss at the Red Bull arena in December 2021.

Ahead of Wednesday nights first-leg meeting, UEFA have confirmed the Match Officials for the fixture.

Match Referee

Serdar Gözübüyük, will take charge of proceedings in Germany, UEFA have announced.

The Dutch referee has officiated 19 matches so far this season, showing 78 yellow cards and one red card.

Gözübüyük has taken charge of just one UEFA Champions League match this campaign, though was the man in the middle when City beat RB Leipzig 6-3 at the Etihad Stadium last season.

Assistant Referees

Gözübüyük will be accompanied by Assistant Referees Erwin Zeinstra and Johan Balder.

Video Assistant Referees

Overviewing proceedings will be Video Assistant Referee Pol van Boekel and Assistant Video Assistant Referee Dennis Higler.

Fourth Official

Joey Kooij has been named as the Fourth Official.

The official will be overseeing conduct within the two dugouts, and the behaviour of managers Marco Rose and Pep Guardiola.
